
The Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) has published the profiles of 27 senators elected on October 1st. The information about their professions, included on the register, show that four of them are farmers and other four came from the House of Deputies. Also, there are two economists, two lawyers, a retiree, an administrator, a pedagogue, an ex-minister of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva government, a doctor, a state public officer, a businessman and an elementary school teacher. Two senators have not informed their professions during registering.
Among the farmers, two of them are former governors: Joaquim Roriz (PMDB), for Distrito Federal; and Marconi Perillo (PSDB), for Goiás. The seven reelected senators were : José Sarney (PMDB-AP), Pedro Simon (PMDB-RS), Maria do Carmo Alves (PFL-SE), Eduardo Suplicy (PT-SP), Mozarildo Cavalcanti (PTB-RR), Alvaro Dias (PSDB-PR), and Tião Viana (PT-AC). Among these senators, Maria do Carmo declared she was a lawyer and Suplicy, an economist.
Most of the new senators – 20 - have undergraduate degrees. Among the other seven, four have not finished their studies at the university, and for have graduated high school.
Age
Former governor and senator Epitácio Cafeteira (PTB-MA), 82, is the oldest senator. João Durval (PDT-BA) and Eliseu Resende (PFL-MG) are 77. Two 76 years old veterans were reelected: José Sarney and Pedro Simon.
No 35 years old senator was elected. This is the minimum age required for being a candidate. The youngest senators are 43: João Vicente Claudino (PTB-PI), Expedito Júnior (PPS-RO) and Marconi Perillo (PSDB-GO). They are followed by Kátia Abreu (PFL-TO), 44, and senators Tião Viana (PT-AC) and Renato Casagrande (PSB-ES), 45 years old both.
