Marco Maciel suggests political reform should be discussed after elections

Senator Marco Maciel(PFL-PE)

On Thursday (14), senator Marco Maciel (PFL-PE) suggested on the Plenary that the National Congress should decide right after the elections over the schedule for institutional reforms, especially political, before new legislative session starts on February 15th 2007. He believes Brazil should learn from the political crisis and carry on with reforms which may lead the country to a rather fair economic growth.

- We must make something of this situation, since problems are noticeable and solutions have almost reached consensus. Brazil must take the chance to make, by National Congress, deep changes which are essential to its people - he said.

He thinks only a deep reform may inhibit unlawful acts as those been denounced and investigated within the last months. Marco Maciel asked electors to show their faith in Brazilian democracy once more, by attending to elections and avoiding spoiling their votes. He stressed that only electors’ responsible vote, i.e., choosing good deputies and senators, may improve the National Congress.
