Ambassadors to 12 countries, UN and WTO are approved

The plenary of the Senate

The Plenary approved on Wednesday (18) presidential messages nominating Brazilian ambassadors to 12 countries, to the United Nations headquarters in Geneva and to the World Trade Organization.

Affonso José dos Santos was nominated to the Brazilian embassy to Congo, by 39 against 4 votes. Fernando José Marroni de Abreu was nominated to the Embassy to Jordan, with 48 favorable votes, and Sérgio Augusto de Abreu e Lima Florêncio Sobrinho was nominated to the Brazilian Embassy to México.

Maria Stela Pompeu Brasil Frota was approved to the post of Brazilian ambassadress to Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Maria Nazareth Farani Azeced received unanimous approval of the Plenary to her nomination as permanent delegate of Brazil to the United Nations in Geneva. Roberto Carvalho de Azevêdo was approved to represent Brazil at the WTO and other international economic organizations that are also located in Geneva.

Clodoaldo Hugueney had his nomination approved by the Senate to the cumulative posts of Brazilian ambassador to China, Mongolia, and North Korea. Pedro Fernando Brêtas had his nomination to the Brazilian embassy to Ireland approved by 44 to four votes.

The message nominating Eduardo dos Santos, first class minister of the Ministry of External Relations, as ambassador to the Republic of Paraguay was approved by 47 to 2 votes.

At the end of the session, the Plenary approved, by 43 to four votes, the message of president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva nominating Ivan Oliveira Canabrava to the cumulative posts of ambassador to Belgium and Luxemburg.
