Former chief of Internal Control of the Civil Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic José Aparecido Nunes Pires opened his deposition to the Joint Parliamentary Committee of Investigation (CPMI) on Corporate Cards, on Tuesday (20), reading a declaration in which he denies any participation in the dossier of corporate cards expenses in the administration of Fernando Henrique Cardoso.
José Aparecido said he was surprised after knowing that the email sent to André Eduardo Fernandes – senator Alvaro Dias’s advisor – came from his computer, with the “databank” attached. Aparecido said he understood the importance of that information, but also claimed he did not remember sending anything through his e-mail, and that, maybe, it was all a mistake, committed unintentionally.
He raised the possibility of another person using his computer to send the dossier to André Fernandes. According to Aparecido, the purpose would be to send just a text written in a Word file. He assured that he never talked about this subject with the Civil Cabinet’s minister, Dilma Roussef, or with the secretary-executive of the ministry, Erenice Guerra.
- If that was my intention, to send a document or confidential information, it would be much easier to send in a pendrive, a CD or a paper – said Aparecido.
Quiet and vague during the deposition, José Aparecido said he did not participate on any meeting to discuss a dossier, saying he only indicated two members from the staff to be part of the working group on the dossier, attending a request from the secretary of Administration of the Civil Cabinet, Norberto Temóteo Queiroz, who would have given the order to create this informal group. José Aparecido denied blackmailing André Fernandes.
After an 8 hour meeting, the Joint Committee on Corporate Cards came to the conclusion that the truth about who ordered the dossier, and who did it, is in the hands of the Federal Police.
