During the meeting of the Committee on Environment, Consumer Defense and Auditing and Control (CMA), on Tuesday (25), two provisional subcommittees were created. The first, proposed by senator Flexa Ribeiro (PSDB-PA), will debate the development of the environmental crisis in the Amazon; the second, suggested by senator Sibá Machado (PT-AC), will subsidize the Brazilian parliamentarians' participation in the 5th World Water Forum, which will happen in March 2009, in Turkey.
Flexa Ribeiro affirmed that the crisis in the world’s largest tropical forest is due to the interventions and omissions that threaten the Amazonian ecosystems and its population’s survival.
The subjects that will probably be discussed in the first meeting of the subcommittee are: a new obligatory agrarian register of all rural properties located in the most deforested districts; the acquisition of lands by foreigners in the Amazon; and the resolution of the National Monetary Council that establishes obligatory conditions to give credit to rural enterprises in the region.
The provisional subcommittee suggested by senator Sibá Machado was created to follow the activities of the American Water Forum, that will take place in Brazil this year, as well as to formulate proposals and to subsidize the Brazilian parliamentarians' participation in the 5th World Forum of the Water, that will happen in Istanbul in March 2009.
