Technologic convergence in the communication sector may be considered to be an inevitable trend, said specialists invited to a public audience on Wednesday (13) by the Committee on Science, Technology, Innovation, Communication and Informatics (CCT). However, broadcasting and technology sectors have different plans for the future, which became clear during the meeting headed by senator Wellington Salgado (PMDB-MG).
In the one hand, television broadcasters want to keep restrained participation of foreign capital in productions related to the audiovisual content. On the other hand, telephone companies – some of them belonging to foreigners – intend to enter the cable TV market.
According to senator the Flexa Ribeiro (PSDB-PA), who made the petition for the audience, issues as Brazilian cultural identity, protection to national audiovisual sector and settlement of a legal benchmark still have to be considered.
- Convergence is a reality. As it happens in the economy globalization, although some people may not like it, there is no way to escape it. We must establish rules that will guide the convergence process.
