Casagrande asks for the end of barriers to ethanol

As senator Renato Casagrande (PSB-ES) reported his trip to Berlin, where he participated at the Legislators Forum (that occurred before the G8 Summit), he assured the Brazilian Parliament is prepared to take effective measures in order to defend Brazil’s interests as to ethanol commerce, working for the end of tax barriers, especially in developed countries.
Casagrande regretted the international prejudice against the increase of sugarcane fields in the country, on the grounds that it would reduce food production to produce more ethanol. He stressed developed countries have no soil and water reserves for these fields.
- There’ll only be less food to consume and sell if government does not limit biofuel production to areas that are already damaged, thus preserving forests and current food plantings, as the government said it would be – said the senator.
