Polish and Brazilian senators discuss economic growth

The Senate’s president, Renan Calheiros and the president of Poland’s Senate, senator Bogdan Borusewicz

Senate’s president, Renan Calheiros, received on Tuesday (24) the president of Poland’s Senate, senator Bogdan Borusewicz, who visited Brazil along with parliamentarians and the most important entrepreneurs from that country looking to increase trade between both nations. Renan said to the visitors that Brazil has already experienced periods of great growth, and is now engaged in a general effort in order to recreate that performance.

- Economic growth is our destiny but we need to do our homework. In this globalized economy, we need to fulfill our destiny. We still need to make some reforms, to conclude the Judiciary reform and to conduct the tax and fiscal reform in order to assure more quality to public expense – he stressed.

During the conversation, Polish parliamentarians said that their country tried to develop, without success, a social inclusion program as the one adopted by Brazil. The visitors, with a volume of Basic Income Program in hands, given to them by senator Eduardo Suplicy (PT-SP), said this text would be very useful for the execution of a social project in Poland.

Besides Suplicy, senators Valdir Raupp (PMDB-RO), Eduardo Azeredo (PSDB-MG), Inácio Arruda (PCdoB-CE) and Gerson Camata (PMDB-ES) took part in the conversation. Senator Camata talked about the importance of the Polish immigration to Brazil and stressed the relevance of strengthening the trade between both countries.

Borusewicz also said that, due to Poland’s current investments in infrastructure, by 2013 the country would display a growth rate standard similar to Spain.
