Collor said it was not easy to come back to past and revive the suffering of being “morally offended, accused without proof, insulted and humiliated for months, supporting the bitterness of baseless accusations and being condemned even before any judgment”.
He mentioned historical facts such as the abdication imposed to emperor Dom Pedro I; president Getúlio Vargas’s suicide; and the action that has overthrown and exiled president João Goulart. Collor contextualized his impeachment in the course of force acts, which he classified such as “periodic routine” on the country’s political history.

The former president justified his long and detailed speech was due to a task of conscience considering so many different versions and interpretations about the facts. He attributed his fall to a “great fraud” planned by adversaries “moved by rancor”.
Collor also reminded that the Supreme Federal Court absolved him, on 13th December of 1994.
- According to the pronouncements of those illustrious magistrates who judged me, there isn’t any evidence of tort, neither on legal documents nor on witnesses’ deposition that I might, at any time, have practiced as president of the Republic. I was moved away based on the assumption, only on the assumption, that the accusations directed to me were true – stated the senator.
